MORNSUN TD-R5S: integrating power, isolation and communication
An industrial control board needs power on both sides of an isolation barrier and a reliable way to exchange signals across it. MORNSUN, the Chinese industrial power supplier known domestically as Jinshengyang, is combining those functions in its TD-R5S series. At a different point in the equipment design, its M-H series addresses high-voltage adjustment during power semiconductor testing.
Together, these products show how MORNSUN is seeking a larger role in equipment design. An integrated interface can reduce component selection and integration work; a dedicated test supply can address a delay in a specific test process. For international engineering and procurement teams, the question is how those approaches compare with the product portfolios of MEAN WELL, RECOM and TDK-Lambda, and what the available evidence says about MORNSUN's commercial position.
1. A broad catalogue needs customers and distribution
MORNSUN's portfolio spans board-mounted AC/DC converters, isolated DC/DC converters, enclosed supplies and DIN-rail supplies. Sourcing several of these functions from one supplier can simplify selection and technical communication. Commercial success still depends on engineers finding the products, designing them into equipment and choosing them again for later projects.
MEAN WELL illustrates the scale of that challenge. Its website reports consolidated revenue of US$1.186 billion in 2025, with standard power supplies accounting for 99% of revenue and more than 260 authorized distributors worldwide. Reusable standard products and a distribution network help it serve many separate equipment projects. MORNSUN is competing with a business built through years of product development and customer access.
MORNSUN has also disclosed resources that support a broad portfolio. In September 2026, it reported more than 700 R&D staff, over 1,300 granted patents and a production-line automation rate above 70%. These figures describe development and manufacturing capacity. Comparing them with MEAN WELL's revenue cannot establish the gap in sales or market share.
MEAN WELL's website cites an April 2026 Micro Technology report placing it fifth among global manufacturers of DC-output power supplies. The material reviewed does not establish a comparable ranking for MORNSUN. Its industrial power coverage is clear; the sales generated by that coverage require separate commercial evidence.

2. MORNSUN and RECOM offer different levels of integration
For an isolated communication interface, engineers must provide the transceiver, electrical isolation and power for the isolated side. A discrete design leaves them to select and coordinate those components. MORNSUN's TD-R5S combines the functions in an SOIC-16 package to reduce that work.
The RS485 device TD551S485HS supports communication rates up to 20 Mbps. Its data rate defines part of its application range, while its integration offers a reason to consider it during board design. External protection, PCB layout and equipment-level electromagnetic compatibility still need validation in the intended application.

Figure 2. Excerpt from page 1 of MORNSUN's official English TD551S485HS datasheet, revision 2026.07.14-A/1. The device is an isolated RS485 transceiver with a communication rate up to 20 Mbps.
On April 8, 2026, RECOM introduced power ICs and surface-mount transformers for customers designing their own isolated DC/DC converters. Alongside complete modules, these components give engineers more control over layout and component configuration.
The two approaches address a familiar trade-off. MORNSUN's integrated interface reduces the work of combining functions; RECOM's discrete offering preserves more design freedom. They are not directly interchangeable products, but both are relevant to teams weighing development effort against flexibility. The opportunity for MORNSUN depends on how closely the integrated device matches the customer's interface and operating requirements.
3. Test supplies compete on the equipment's operating cycle
In double-pulse testing of power semiconductors, moving between test voltages requires charging or discharging an energy-storage capacitor. A measurement may be complete while the equipment is still waiting for the next voltage setting. MORNSUN's M-H series, announced in August 2026, targets this part of the process.
The M-H1200-SP18K has a programmable output of 20 to 1,200 V and supports 18 kW of transient power. Under the manufacturer's stated conditions, a 200 V step takes 50 ms typical with a 2 mF capacitive load. This describes voltage adjustment under a defined load. Any improvement in total test throughput also depends on measurement, control and other steps in the equipment cycle.

Figure 3. Editorial English adaptation of the Chinese MORNSUN M-H1200-SP18K datasheet excerpt, revision 2026.08.13-A/0. The 18 kW figure is transient power; 50 ms is the typical adjustment time for a 200 V step with a 2 mF capacitive load. This is not an official English datasheet.
MEAN WELL's NSP-2400 and TDK-Lambda's TPF12500 serve equipment customers at different points in the power system. The NSP-2400, introduced in August 2026, is a 2,400 W enclosed AC/DC supply with adjustable voltage and current and built-in CANBus communication, allowing power control to be integrated into the equipment.
The TPF12500, announced in September, converts three-phase AC into a 385 V DC bus at a rated power of 12.5 kW for downstream isolated DC/DC converters. Its non-isolated architecture makes sense within that distributed power system.

For the M-H series, fast voltage adjustment and capacitor energy recovery are central to the intended test application. This takes MORNSUN further into the equipment's operating process. Demonstrating performance in an actual test system is therefore part of the competitive task, alongside the controllable enclosed-supply approach of MEAN WELL and the DC-bus architecture of TDK-Lambda.
4. Technical progress still needs commercial evidence
The product direction is specific: reduce component integration work on control boards and address a defined load in test equipment. MORNSUN's existing range provides coverage across industrial power functions, while these products add reasons for an equipment designer to consider the company.
International projects also face conditions beyond electrical performance. The source checks for this article, dated September 21, 2026, found MORNSUN still listed on the US Treasury's OFAC Specially Designated Nationals list. MORNSUN's product information page also carried a notice about an issue with its UL files, stating that its products' UL certification after May 1, 2024 was invalid. These are separate matters. Transaction conditions and the applicable product certification status affect access to particular projects and markets; they do not establish a blanket conclusion that sales are impossible in every market.
The evidence supports describing MORNSUN as a Chinese industrial power supplier with an established manufacturing base that is extending its work in components and equipment applications. Public information reviewed for this article does not establish customer adoption or sales volumes for these new products.
Evidence of TD-R5S designs in actual control boards, repeat M-H orders from equipment projects and disclosed revenue from the relevant businesses would make the commercial picture clearer. Those results would show how much the recent product work has changed MORNSUN's market position.
